Hi John. We moved to a 4 X 72 minute day 3 years ago. Our year 7's and 8's do 4 periods of PE plus one period of health but that is in a two week cycle. I am not sure if that satisfy's the requirement but am fairly confident that it does. Don't know if this is any help to you.

Subject: [Physical Education] Compulsory Physical and Sport Education

  Dear colleagues,

I am seeking clarification and assistance in arguing for a larger slice of the Year 7 - 10 curriculum time at our college for Health and Physical Education.

We are changing the structure of our timetable next year from 6 x 48 minute periods to 4 x 72 minute periods. In the process of transferring the current time allotted to H&PE over to that proposed, my KLA's time is dropping due to 'rounding down' of total class time minutes.

I wish to strengthen my case for more time by using the Department's current compulsory Physical and Sport Education times and I'd like to know how much weight that particular memorandum carries now, in lieu of the transition to a VELs compliant curriculum.

I welcome any advice, comments or suggestions based on the experience of other schools.

Your expedient responses would be most welcome.

  Many thanks,

  John Gove
Coordinator of Health and Physical Education at Boronia Heights College
