Over the last few years I have been playing with various linuxes - mainly
to see how they can be used in our Novell environment. One of the easier
ones was Xandros 2 (maybe 5 years ago?) - using the method described in
the wiki. However, the nicest disto in a Novell network imho is Suse.
About 3 years ago we had one computer lab set to dual boot Win XP and
Suse (the reason for Suse was that we wanted a French language OS and
apps for our French immersion stream). I had discovered almost by
accident 'Novel Client' for linux, and fumbled through getting it to
work. This client not only mapped\\\\\\\mounted the users home folder,
but all the other drives according to the login script. When others
mentioned how difficult linux was to use, I could say that our 10 year
old girls managed it just fine, and in French as well.

Now we use WinXP with a French language pack, StarOffice in French,
French versions of Eudora, Firefox,Inspiration, MicroMondes, MS
PhotoStory.

Since then both Suse (Enterprise Desktop?) and the client are more
polished - the client is very much like the Windows client, and is

The one I first tried is here:
I'm not a fluent linux user and am too old and grumpy to bother with it
except on a superficial basis - if I can't get something to work after 2
or 3 goes I give up. I have yet to find a variety of Ubuntu I like, but
that's just me.
