So, back to the off-topic - apart from the fun of fiddling, why would you
want to run linux apps on a Windows desktop? Many of the apps can be got
for Windows these days. I'm fiddling with a LaTeX editor for Windows,
LaTeX being a unix/linux only app until fairly recently. I know
they are mostly free, but it makes no difference to me since my employer
provides my tools of the trade.<br><br>

ps I quite like Ubuntu/Kubuntu 8 - works very well is a dual booting
machine - reads and writes to NTFS partitions no trouble. I prefer the
KDE version.<br><br>

This seems like a great way to introduce yourself to Ubuntu Linux
