<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size:11.0pt;font-family:"Calibri","sans-serif";color:#1F497D">When a software tool is included in the ‘study and use’ table it means that there is a direct key knowledge related to the software, and the knowledge and skills
associated with that can be assessed. For example ‘functions and techniques within a RDBMS to efficiently …’ (Informatics, U3O2). Here students must be assessed on their skills with this software.<o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size:11.0pt;font-family:"Calibri","sans-serif";color:#1F497D"><o:p> </o:p></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size:11.0pt;font-family:"Calibri","sans-serif";color:#1F497D">Whereas if the software is in the ‘use’ only table, then there is no related key knowledge to it, hence proficiency with the tool cannot be assessed, just the
evidence that is presented through the use of the tool. An example is Informatics Unit 3, appropriate tool for documenting projects plans. A key knowledge relates to project management concepts and processes, so while a tool is used to create a plan, what
will be assessed is the quality of the concepts and processes that are displayed in the plan, (e.g. milestones and time allocations) not the technical finesse with which the student used the tool.<o:p></o:p></span></p>
