<div>Thanks Rob,</div><div><br></div>I guess a disadvantage with a Sharepoint / Outlook hybrid instead of Ultranet is that it doesn't have the close integration with external cohorts like Parents. Kind of why the security and access for parents and educators has to be bundled in with an administration system that reflects changes to custody and access to children. <div>
<br></div><div>I must admit, it isn't something that I have had to think through before until now.<div><br></div><div><div><div><div><div>Regards Roland<br><br><div style="margin-top:0pt;margin-right:0pt;margin-bottom:0pt;margin-left:0pt" name="sig_d41d8cd98f">

well it works yet but reason given was that it is in-house on our intranet so it
much faster than ultranet which is very slow apparently. It also integrates with
our sharepoint intranet.</font></div>

<div>Apologies that the scope of this email is for Vic State Schools. I am
still interested in your feedback. I was pleased to hear that our school
has made the brave decision to go move forward and not issues paper student
diaries. Just announced by the year level coordinator and some pleasing smiles
by the students. Interesting ..</div>
<div><br></div>
<div>I was interested to see in the Ultranet, the deep integration with the
calendar / events for organising and scheduling events. That is, when an
assessment or learning task is created then it propagates the Ultranet student
calendar with start and finish event dates. Importantly, it does the same for
the Ultranet parent calendar and dynamically updates itself as tasks are
modified by the teacher. Another colleague just noted that using
their Ultranet ePortfolio (explore space) would have some further interesting
applications for reflective blogging about work and event recording.</div>
<div>
<div><br></div>
<div>
<div>I was surprised to hear yesterday that instead, consideration is being
given to quickly deploy MS Outlook 2010 on all the student netbooks from year
7 to 12 (along with associated training and mandated use). I am unsure how
fast or effective this will be, or if this is really practical considering the
benefits of the Ultranet for a larger audience of parents and
students.</div></div>
<div><br></div>
<div>I would like some feedback from other users of the Ultranet calendar
system, especially in relation to how this compares with an MS Outlook
Exchange based client system on student netbooks.</div>

<div>Brave and exciting world. :-)</div>
