Talking Excel or Access is, I think, not what the nub of the question is getting at. <br><br>Excel is desperate to treat as numbers anything that looks like a number. It does the same with dates, and often erroneously converts a non-date value to date formatting.<br>
<br>Instead of Excel, think of file lists in a file manager. If the names start with digits, they are sorted alphabetically, not numerically - and I have seen this often e.g. in Greg Bowden's PDF tutorials' chapters which he numbers like this "Filemaker Chapter 1 - title" which, when sorted by name ends up like<br>
<br>Chapter 1 - topic<br>Chapter 11 - topic<br>Chapter 12 - topic<br>'.<br>.<br>Chapter 2- topic<br>Chapter 21 - topic <br>Chapter 22 - topic<br><br>etc.<br><br>I've spent many an irritated minute having to do batch renaming of tutorial chapter filenames (adding leading zeroes) because of this.<br>

<br>Damn that ERD question - three marks and they had to draw an entire diagram from scratch! Grrr.<br><br>The 8 mark question appeared, as we expected. And it was approachable.<br><br>Overall, I think I might give the dog a bone.<br>
