Here is a better option .. check out Miro. It was a hit with our new MacBook users when we added it to our new image (There are Linux and Windows versions too). It is a free, open source Internet TV and video player that can automatically download videos from RSS-based channels. Basically you can use it to schedule TV shows, YouTube and other video searches via the Internet. These can then be easily played back and shared with your students, between staff at school. So far it has played just about any video format file that I have thrown at it. Very slick.
http://www.getmiro.com

This week I used it to record and play back a NASA environmental news clip, a science demonstration, a Python programming / Moodle tutorial, and a particular ABC Quantum episode I was trying to nail down. All of these vodcasts were freely published online then added to a searchable library on my computer. It will even scan your school network drives for video files. In our case, any files recorded on the digital media centre in our library by our librarian or shared by other staff. Here is a life hacker review of this software.

Hi Folks,

Don't want to veer off topic too much but ...

Students incorporate video in presentations. Teachers plead for youtube as it has tutorials. Blocking students and allowing teachers was tried, except staff became the foot soldiers for students who wanted to incorporate the relevant movie files which you can save to a clip (flv or mp4) with a multitude of sites ( eg. keepvid.com ) and then convert to any format you like ( mpeg I or II, avi, wmv ) using a range of online utilities eg. Super Video converter. Currently closed, we open and close youtbube a few times a day and it is a pain.

Ok, students can bring videos from youtube from home , but why wait until the next day to get something educational and necessary now when we have the technology to get it ? Because others may stray onto the undesirable side of youtube. They can do that with the internet can't they ? Yes, but we log and block known hazards.

Not all things are black or white. Not satisfactory and I don't have an answer to all the questions related to this -- yet.

Best Wishes
I've made it available to staff, but not kids.

Somehow (don't ask me) staff were instructed how to save Youtube FLVs
and play them with VLC player so they could show them to kids without
the kids needing Youtube access here at school - too much timewasting
and bandwidth abuse.
