color:#1F497D'>Vista is set to be a little more secure than XP. If the Markbook
folder is located in the users “Documents” folder then the user
does have all the security rights for reading and writing and Markbook should
be OK. <o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p class=MsoNormal><span style='font-size:11.0pt;font-family:"Calibri","sans-serif";
color:#1F497D'>The problem seems to occur when the reports folder is located
outside the users “Documents” folder, say “c:\reports”.
Vista , by default, only gives read permissions for folders outside “Documents”.
This is supposed to prevent strange things happening to Vista. This is why the
permissions need to be set manually outside the Documents folder. When you
update Markbook it sends your files to Central and updates them into the
database. Central then tries to send you new copies of the files. When it can’t
write the first file you get the error message.<o:p></o:p></span></p>

color:#1F497D'>Unix systems are also guilty of this kind of thing. I have
copied photos from DVD’s onto Mac OS X (a certified unix OS) and before I
can rename a file (yes, just rename a file) I have to change the read only file
permissions that copy with the photos, even though I am logged in as an
administrator. Annoying, but takes only seconds to fix. When you do this on
Windows it allows you to rename the files without changing the permissions.<o:p></o:p></span></p>

color:#1F497D'>Yes, the Vista image was appalling. Our TSSP did his own Vista image
for the Macbooks using Bootcamp. It runs nicely on a Mac but I think this is
more to do with the image and the setup than the Mac hardware. However, when
using Vista to generate a report in Markbook Central it took 4 and a half
minutes. I installed XP myself and the same report took 30 seconds so I’ll
be using XP on the Macbook to manage reports.<o:p></o:p></span></p>
