British Government says a private contractor working for the Home Office has
lost a computer memory stick containing personal details of all 84,000
prisoners in England and Wales.<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class=MsoNormal style='mso-margin-top-alt:auto;mso-margin-bottom-alt:auto'>The
memory stick contains the names, birth dates and release dates of many inmates,
as well as the home addresses of almost half of them.<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class=MsoNormal style='mso-margin-top-alt:auto;mso-margin-bottom-alt:auto'>The
Government says the information was not encrypted.<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class=MsoNormal style='mso-margin-top-alt:auto;mso-margin-bottom-alt:auto'>It
is the latest in a string of data leaks from British Government departments,
including the admission last November that the confidential records on 25
million Britons who receive child benefits had been lost.<o:p></o:p></p>

a staff member sold a computer on eBay containing personal details of one
million bank customers. <o:p></o:p></span></p>

computer was bought on the online auction site for £35 ($75) by Andrew Chapman,
an IT manager from Oxford, in central England, who found the information on the
computer's hard drive. <o:p></o:p></span></p>

included bank account numbers, phone numbers, mothers' maiden names and
signatures of one million customers of American Express, NatWest and the Royal
