Um, my impression of WP5 and 5.1 from looking after 'pooters in a local
council in the late 80s early 90s was that mail merge, macros, tables etc
in WP were non-trivial. After a while the ladies were able to do tables,
but I had to do all the macros and provide lots of help with even simple
merges. You guys have forgotten how eccentric WP was. One time I got a
secretary started in WP to have a look around, then went out for my
lunchtime run. I forgot to tell her how to get out of WP, and she was
still trying when I came back an hour later. (Something to do with F7,
very intuitive. Not.) You definitely needed the keyboard overlay with all
the function key help on it) The reveal code feature was very
useful.<br><br>

Mark is right .. there are better ways than how Word handles mail
merging. One application I know of works by just dragging a field out of
the database and dropping it onto the desired location in a word
processor (*taps forehead*) is this sensible for noobs or what? <br><br>
FileMaker is starting to look good, most of you would be suprised how
many schools use it in the States :-)<br><br>

The shortest useful document is one I wrote which, in its entirety

Word's mail merge has not improved in 20 years. Wordperfect 5
trounced it soundly in 1981, and Microsoft has made NO effort to improve
its execrable merge technology since then.<br><br>
It is a mad, sick, slavering dog with mailmerge rabies to be shot on
first sight.<br><br>
Run, screaming, at the first sight of Word mail merge. Use Filemaker and
its merge codes instead.<br><br>
