I use its merge all the time, I find it especially useful for working with my
mySQL backend. Merge is as simple as F4, drag and drop … but WordPerfect is
still streets ahead if you need to build some logic into the process e.g. a
Doctor needs to use different stationary or layouts depending on the
pathologist being faxed.

Mark is right .. there are
better ways than how Word handles mail merging. One application I know of works
by just dragging a field out of the database and dropping it onto the desired
location in a word processor (*taps forehead*) is this sensible for noobs or
what?

FileMaker is starting to look good, most of you would be suprised how many
schools use it in the States :-)

The shortest useful document is one I wrote which, in its
entirety is:

Don't.

Word's mail merge has not improved in 20 years. Wordperfect 5 trounced it
soundly in 1981, and Microsoft has made NO effort to improve its execrable
merge technology since then.

It is a mad, sick, slavering dog with mailmerge rabies to be shot on first
sight.

Run, screaming, at the first sight of Word mail merge. Use Filemaker and its
merge codes instead.

The best I can offer is:
http://www.mckinnonsc.vic.edu.au/vceit/howto/merge/index.htm
but that's like getting a junkie onto using clean needles instead of kicking
the powder.

This is an official announcement. You have been warned. Just say NO to
word mail Merge.

Thank you.
Does anyone have a short instruction sheet on mail merge with excel in
