I have been pondering that stuff for VELS for a while now... I
didn't realise it had made its way into VCE IT as well.

Does anyone else find it quite ridiculous? The computer interface is
surely only ever a hindrance for visualising thinking! Even with
text, it takes years of practice before one becomes familiar enough
with the keyboard/screen interface that it flows better on-screen
than on paper. For graphical expression, I really don't see how any
interface could be unobtrusive enough that it would beat pen and paper!

My second objection to this fad of mind mapping and so forth is that
it ignores the fact that some people think in a linear or symbolic
fashion, for which the most suitable form of "brain dump" is a
textual format, for example the humble numbered or bulleted list.
Sure, hundreds of software tools (outliners, etc) exist for this, but
it ain't "visual".

Russell

Important - This email and any attachments may be confidential.
