I think I now know what Ros is looking for.

I have a pop3 e-mail account for home that I use on my home computer with Thunderbird and another at school .. nothing new there but it is better now that I dont use these for my edulist mail. Like others on this list, I resubscribed using a web based email service (there are many around with ooodles of capacity .. gmail shows this thread of 15 messages as single web page). Gradually I have added other subscription and mailing lists, sometimes adding filters and rules to my home and school e-mail to bounce the messages to the web based service and more rules to move mail for my-eyes-only back to its proper place. All this rule scripting must add up to a VCE unit somewhere ..

Our tech had soooooo much junk mail missed that he created a rule to move all e-mail to a junk folder then other rules to move selected messages back to the inbox. We had such a good laugh to see it actually working. I have often wondered if I could make better use of the round, empty filing cabinet next to my desk. ;-)

Also Outlook can only be accessed from the home computer.

And my other problem is I have 2 school emails - edumail gets all the email which is sent to Bentleigh SC teachers (I am on a year's LWOP) plus all the edulists I subscribe to, plus other assorted educational/learning emails which I send/receive.

Then I have my Lauriston email - which is easy - open Outlook on my Lauriston tablet PC and if I am at school I have instant access to all that email, plus I DO use the Calendar for every class/meeting/helpdesk duty/yard duty/assembly etc - so that is fine. Once you have set up the calendar it is great! I don't do anything with paper nowadays. And I use the Tasks also for things I have to do. If I am home or on another computer I can access my Lauriston email and calendar via their website.

The problem with edumail is that it is slow...I could send an email with nothing in it to myself and it could take half an hour, sometimes I email one of the edulists, then someone else may email a similar suggestion, but mine won't appear for another 40 minutes or so (and then I look like the doofus!!! lol) or I will hit reply, then get sidetracked, and then a blank email hits the edulists (embarrassing plus) I know I am not the only person this has happened to. Also it has a limit on file sizes sent or received, and a limit on how much you can store in the inbox, but I can't find out what these limits are or what percentage of that limit I have used. Also people tell me they send something to my edumail but I never get it. I just think that it is unreliable. Attaching a file takes forever and you can only attach one file at a time, received attachments often have to be saved before you can open them (now that makes sense eh!! - How do you know whether you want to save it when you haven't even seen it!!??!!). The one advantage of edumail is its spam free nature.

Anyway the positive of all this is that Peter Thomson had the edumail setups for yahoo, so I can now pull my edumail into there, it still looks as though I am sending from edumail, but in fact it comes from yahoo, and I have 200 Mb of storage and a bar graph shows me what percentage of that I have used :))

In the meantime I am hoping that gmail will get it happening so that you can import other emails into it, then we will all have 2 gig email storage, and if that happens I will probably move everything over to my gmail address!!
