I now recommend space invaders for an introductory tutorial, more exciting than clickball - I've trialled this for various classes (8, 9, 10) for a year now

http://www.users.on.net/~billkerr/g/si.htm

After the intro there are a couple of different paths you can go down:
1) as suggested on the GM site there are various tutorials (maze, platform, 1945)
2) alternatively, give them challenges, which I think invites more independent learning, a bit more struggle and angst involved
http://www.users.on.net/~billkerr/g/ch.htm
3) design and make your own game

or you can do a combination of (1) , (2) and (3) depending on the student

I think if you depend too much on the tutorials then students can get into a production without much thought mode

thanks Charles,
- Bill

--
Bill Kerr
http://billkerr2.blogspot.com/

http://www.users.on.net/~billkerr/g/clk.htm. Most students, including Year 4, can easily have the game working within 45 minutes - it demonstates most of the basics including scoring, moving and collisions. There are lots of ideas for then expanding the game.

I also then move on to the Maze tutorial pdf version.

cheers

charlie
