One of the original wiggles changed from a green shirt for this reason. Anybody like to guess who? The popularity of green stems from the observation the note that people and skin colour don't generally have any green shades whilst they may have some red and blue components (lips, veins etc). I read that with the right 'paint', you can even use a UV light to make the background key light up in even dark situations!
<font face="verdana" size="2"><br></font><br>StarWars got around the give-away coloured edge that this effect often gives to films by using a computer with a travelling matt. From memory, it was made with the same PDP11 that I have fond memories of using at Swinburne. :-)

May I also suggest that you can use any colour (yellow, red, green, blue etc) At my last school, we started with blue, but it bled into the student's grey shirts too much. We used a white wall, but bled into white socks and blonde hair. Black walls lost black hair and shoes. Try to choose a colour that does not appear in their uniform. we started developing a green wall for the next year, but I left, so never saw the final outcome.
