I quite agree that it is important to let students take ownership of their digital portfolios.<br><br>I ask them to save positive samples of their work (odt docs, sdr images, mp3 audio, mp4 video, GameMaker files etc) into a folder then create a web page that weaves links to the resources and a reflective dialogue using a html editor. We use the Open Source NVU html editor that allows even allows for remote updating on our Novell network and can run from the USB key. It is a low tech solution, free to use at home and can be repeated each year .. becoming a kind of 'MySpace on a Stick' that they can take home and 'publish' via an intranet link on their Moodle profile.

I have had the year 7's create their digital portfolio's during IT this semester. I have been able to do this because this group have had the best range of IT skills and were really competent in word, excel etc - usually I have to concentrate on these areas.
<br><br>This semester we have looked at Flash, Photoshop Elements, some Office and Frontpage. The hope is that they will feel confident enough to add to their portfolio by themselves. I have been really impressed with what they have come up with so far.
<br><br>To me, my main aim was to get them to take ownership of their portfolios as the other staff do not have the skills to assist them during class time. I hope that, when their teachers say "add this to your portfolio" they will have the confidence to do just that.
