Well noted Andrew .. nothing beats the human interface, a responsible teacher who engages the students, monitors their progress and keeps them on task. This week we spotted another proxy redirector and did the right thing, it wasnt a big deal and we took it in our stride. I wont be drawn into the details or ethics on this list but there is actually a reasonable case for some people (inc students) using these tools to cover their tracks .. albeit, certainly not on a public school computer or network.
Teachers'Mailing List
Subject: [Year 12 IPM] Schools and MySpace et al

Hi All,
well it was only a matter of time before we found our first reference to
staff here on MySpace. Of course it is not too complimentary and most
likely libelous and or defamatory. I have had a chat with the boss and
he wants to block MySpace, however he realises that we can't control
what students have access to at home and we can't keep up with the sheer
amount of sites available to students to post to.
These sites offer much to education, just take a look at the amount of
PD about blogs etc, however, I wonder if we are being effective in
communicating to students the legal implications of this tool.
We are only just introducing blogs etc to staff in PD sessions, I was
wondering if anyone can share with me any official legal advice they
have had or had to give in this area. Do you know of any sites
(Australian would be good....sigh) that have info on this?
