I’m trying to reach as many English Teachers as possible. VATE is running a Focus on Poetry this year and as part of that we have a disciplinary renewal series running on Tuesday evenings once a month. It is an opportunity to hear academics talk about their passions in poetry – academics such as Peter Otto on Blake or Lyn McCreddon on Eliot and there is indigenous poetry with Tony Birch and Asian poetry with Ali Alizadeh as well as war poety and the list goes on. You can choose six and renew your discipline or if you have not had much opportunity to study poetry at uni, gain an understanding of it. This is a series about Literature, not necessarily about teaching poetry. Later in the year there will be opportunities to meet teachers who will talk about how to teach it and poets who will talk about how to write it. We need your support for this so please enrol. The VATE web address is http://www.vate.org.au.
