<DIV>It is still not clear whether a first year new graduate teacher is going to earn less than a graduate teacher under this scheme. Presumably this is not the case. Can you please confirm that a second or a third year graduate teacher will have the same salary + the step to the next level?</DIV>

<DIV>thanks</DIV>

<DIV><FONT face=Arial>The flat percentage increases will probably only just keep up with inflation. However the union has won significant wage increases by a career restructure. Hence the pay rises are uneven. There will be significant gains for leading teacher 1, experienced teachers 3, and graduate teachers and any teachers moving into these levels in the lifetime of the aggreement. Teachers at other levels will be compensated to some extent by one off cash payments. The other effect is to have a larger percentage rise first up - 4.9% immediately - so that the following 2.71% pay rises will have a compounding effect resulting in a greater dollar value.</FONT></DIV>

<DIV>I am sure there is confusion out there for all teachers. There appear to be contradictions. If the Government is right, then teachers at the end of this four years will have just kept up with inflation and they will again be worse off than the NSW teachers. Has anyone got better clarification than The Age or ABC which seem to be thoroughly confused?</DIV>
