have 4 full time technicians which is about right for a school of our size and
the ratio you mentioned. Believe me they are constantly running for one reason
or another. They are very good and try hard to keep me informed of issues but
they cant be everywhere, everyday either. <o:p></o:p></SPAN></P>

all ensure that the network is running smoothly and do the obvious tasks like

there are times when tasks take longer than expected and things get

point here is that I am sure all schools have these issues and it would be

agree with all that has been said! It is a huge role and all the tasks you
have mentioned are part of my role description! I would like to add another
task; policing the use and care of ICT resources. (Another task to the
endless list of duties!) Some staff expect equipment to be working properly,
but are not prepared to follow procedures to ensure that all resources are
looked after. With 7 computer labs over 2 campuses and 6 laptop trolleys it
is a difficult task to keep track of all these
resources.<o:p></o:p></SPAN></P>

number of times I have checked labs to ensure that there are enough chairs,
computer stations are in order, removed rubbish, switched off screens, data
projectors & computers, checked that printers are not jammed etc. Not to
mention keeping track of the laptop trolleys to ensure that all laptops are
connected to power cables. Only this week one trolley had the main power
board completely vandalized with the main cord ripped and the steel prongs
which go into the power point completely bent back! Checking who booked the
trolley showed that there was no booking. The sign in sheets were also not
filled. What options are there? <o:p></o:p></SPAN></P>

am thinking that I may have a random audit of rooms and resources at certain
times of the day?? But then again, what do I say to the teachers concerned?

may assist them in their particular course. I show them things that
might help achieve the goals they already have, that will engage
students and save both parties time and I assist the teacher in ther
ability and confidence in using that

with the teacher who is the expert in their area. I give an idea or
two, WE try it out with as much support from me as possible, and we
refine it wherever needed. When it's successful (and it isn't
always) it creates a buzz around that faculty and (fingers crossed!)
eventually permiates throughout the school. A few successes
and a ripple turns into a wave.</SPAN></SPAN> <o:p></o:p></P>

needs the support of a forward thinking principal and leadership
