Hi Kerry
I teach Year 10, 11 and 12 Textiles. It starts at Year 10, it is not offered at Year 9.
In Year 10 Term 1 we start with the basics and the product we produce is a pencil case/makeup purse with a zipper, where they learn the skills of fabric printing, applique, patchwork, pleating/gathering. All of these processes must be incorporated in the design
of the pencil case. In term 2 we follow the product design process similar to VCE and design and produce Pyjama pants/shorts and embellish a purchased top to match the pants.
With the year 11 course semester one we follow the product design process similar to VCE and design and produce an existing hoodie for improvement and concentrate on improvements on sustainability when designing and producing
The students love designing and producing the hoodie which must incorporate a unique process on it such as transfer dye printing, screen printing, applique etc. Semester two they work in groups and do collaborative design. I leave it up to them as a group
to choose the product they would like to design and produce. I usually give them a list of examples they could choose, such as a range of summer pyjamas, casual summer dresses or skirts and tops.
Hope this helps.
Hi everyone ? I am the textiles teacher at Assumption College, Kilmore. We are having difficulty attracting students to textiles at these levels and I was wondering if any textiles teachers out there would mind sharing their year 9 and 10 courses with me so
I could get some ideas about what is working for you? I would really appreciate any assistance that you could offer.
Hello teachers,

I work at Eltham High and currently teach 9-12 PDT Textiles. I am the only teacher here who teaches the subject.
In 2015 I will have separate year 9 and 10 classes and an 11/12 VCE PDT Fibres Composite.

As part of my PD and T goals for 2014-15 I would like the opportunity to go and visit a couple of other schools and see their setup and discuss units of work that I do and vice versa. It would be a fantastic opportunity to network and have a chat about how
our spaces are set up and discuss approaches to teaching PDT Fibres.
I'd also be interested in advice about approaching teaching yr11 and yr12 at the same time too!

Is there anyone within this list that would be interested in letting me come and see their setup/class space? I'm more than happy to return the favour also.

Looking forward to hearing from you.

Warm Regards
