<p class="MsoNormal"><span lang="EN" style="font-size:9.0pt;font-family:"Arial","sans-serif";mso-fareast-language:EN-AU">The importance of underwear in fashion history cannot be overstated. The majestic shapes of 18th century court dress, the distorted hourglass
shapes of the Victorian and Edwardian eras, and Dior’s cinched ‘New Look’ were all dependent upon elaborate corsetry, technologically complex petticoats, hoops, and padded underpinnings.
<i>Undressed: 350 years of Underwear in Fashion</i> will feature highlights from the Victoria & Albert Museum’s extensive collection of underwear that dates from 1750 to the present day.
</span>Highlights include Queen Victoria’s undergarments, and one of the earliest known bras, in addition to many rare, delicate and beautifully detailed items and a selection of men’s underclothes. Striking pieces by world famous fashion designers, including
Calvin Klein, Christian Dior, Gianni Versace, Jean Paul Gaultier and Vivienne Westwood will be shown alongside everyday essentials by major retailers such as Marks & Spencer.
