</SPAN></FONT><SPAN STYLE='font-size:12pt'><FONT FACE="Helvetica Neue Bold Condensed">The Australian Academy of Design last night announced the winners of the inaugural Academy Fashion Prize Competition for years 10-12 secondary students</FONT></SPAN><FONT FACE="Helvetica Neue Bold Condensed"><FONT SIZE="5"><SPAN STYLE='font-size:18pt'>. <BR>
</SPAN></FONT></FONT><FONT FACE="Times New Roman"><SPAN STYLE='font-size:12pt'><BR>
</SPAN></FONT><SPAN STYLE='font-size:12pt'><FONT FACE="Helvetica Neue">From a strong field of 18 finalists whose mood boards and fashion drawings addressed the theme <B>“What I always wanted to wear but my parents wouldn’t let me”</B>, judges selected the following winners: <BR>
<BR>
1st - Mai Vo of Copperfield College, year 12, for “Kinky Gotham City Girl” – the dress she designed around a waistline which forms a mouth with teeth which open and close depending upon whether the wearer is seated or standing, has to be seen to be believed!<BR>
<BR>
Equal 1st - Ashleigh Smith of Luther College, also year 12, for her “child’s play” buttons and bows creations designed for ‘playing in the mud’.<BR>
<BR>
2nd - Vy Nguyen of Copperfield College, year 11, for her piece “Retro Vintage”<BR>
<BR>
3rd - Natalie Kieleithner of Presbyterian Ladies College, year 10, for “Just Image” which included skillfully detailed pencil drawings of flowing lines.<BR>
<BR>
Entrants produced a mood board and up to 4 drawings each. The variety of ideas and expression overwhelmed judges who had a tough time choosing between entries which ranged from pop to punk.<BR>
<BR>
Carmels Fabric Stores provided over $2000 worth of prizes so winners can shop for fabrics, threads, pins, zips, beads, laces and all it takes to make up the exotic designs. <BR>
<BR>
Mai Vo was judged to be the entrant with the most overall potential in fashion design and received the Academy Award of a $1000 scholarship for study in the Bachelor of Design Arts degree in 2009.<BR>

Vladislav Kanevsky - Patterson River Secondary College<BR>
Vy Nguyen - Copperfield College<BR>

</FONT><FONT FACE="Helvetica Neue">All 18 finalists are being exhibited at the Academy’s Port Melbourne gallery at <B>220 Ingles St. The exhibition is open Mon-Fri 9-5 until 3 October. <BR>
