<p><font size=1 color="#4e4e4e" face=Arial><span style='font-size:8.5pt;
font-family:Arial;color:#4E4E4E'>Victoria’s richest design prize, The Premier’s
Design Award 2006, goes to dynamic design duo Chantal MacDonald and Susan
Dimasi of Material by Product, a cutting-edge fashion label that continues to
wow fashionistas and design experts nationally and internationally. “The
element of new ground, of a paradigm shift, presented in this particular
design, made it the winner,” said the Chair of the Jury, Professor John
Redmond, in his opening speech. </span></font></p>
<p><font size=1 color="#4e4e4e" face=Arial><span style='font-size:8.5pt;
font-family:Arial;color:#4E4E4E'>This and eleven further prizes for excellence
were awarded by André Haermeyer, MP, Minister for Manufacturing and Export with
responsibility for design, at a function at Melbourne Museum last night.
Winners in the individual categories included architect Sean Godsell for his
simple yet beautiful St Andrews Beach House, industrial designer Paul Charlwood
for the sophisticated Commonwealth Games’ Queen’s Baton, and graphic designers
Stuart Geddes and Jeremy Wortsman for their unique publication <em><i><font
face=Arial><span style='font-family:Arial'>Is Not</span></font></i></em>
magazine. The inaugural City of Melbourne Sustainability Award, presented by Deputy
Lord Mayor Gary Singer went to architect Katrina Logan for combining sleek
style and environmental design in the ‘Lumi’ Illuminated Rainwater Storage
project. Talented students in each design field were awarded student prizes.</span></font></p>
