I am sending you this message to ensure you know about a resource that<BR>
is available to you and to the networks that you deal with. Could you<BR>

The CRC for Australian Weed Management and the Department of Environment<BR>
and Heritage have produced a training resource for individuals or groups<BR>
involved in weed management. This manual, the "introductory weed<BR>
management manual" can be viewed at<BR>
www.weeds.crc.org.au/documents/manual.pdf. Printed copies of this manual<BR>
(available as a ring-binder folder) are available at no cost to people<BR>
or organisations that wish to use this resource.<BR>

The Introductory Weed Management Manual was developed as a training aid<BR>
for the use of private landholders, conservation groups, catchment<BR>
management groups, industry, and local, state and territory governments.<BR>
The Manual is an introductory guide for those with little experience<BR>
with weed management, particularly the control of environmental weeds.<BR>
It will be of use to those who wish to develop their own weed management<BR>
knowledge and skills and as a training resource for those who need to<BR>
train staff or volunteers in weed management techniques. <BR>

The manual is presented in four training modules:<BR>
<BR>
Module 1: Developing and implementing a weed management plan<BR>
<BR>
Module 2: Weed control methods for community groups<BR>
<BR>
Module 3: Collecting and preparing plant specimens for identification<BR>
<BR>
Module 4: Presentation of information sessions to small groups<BR>
<BR>
<BR>
<BR>
The information presented in this Manual is general in nature so that a<BR>
wide audience can understand the principles outlined. The reader is<BR>
encouraged to use the knowledge and guidance available at local,<BR>
regional and state levels from natural resource management agencies to<BR>
adapt weed management activities for local situations.<BR>

Relationship to national competencies:<BR>
<BR>
The Rural Training Council of Australia (RTCA) has developed vocational<BR>
training packages relevant to a number of industries in rural and<BR>
regional areas. Nationally recognised qualifications can be attained by<BR>
formal recognition of self-acquired skills and knowledge or 'recognition<BR>
of prior learning', as measured against national competencies outlined<BR>
in the training packages. The Conservation and Land Management (CLM)<BR>
training package incorporates units that outline competencies for weed<BR>
management. For readers who may be interested, the relationship between<BR>
the Introductory Weed Management Manual and CLM units is detailed in the<BR>
introduction to the Manual. (Please note this Manual does not<BR>
necessarily satisfy all the requirements of the CLM training package.)<BR>
